How to Fix Pen Pressure Without Restarting

If you have plugged your Wacom tablet into the computer and have found that the pen pressure is not working as it should be, then you are probably now searching the web for answers.

This is an issue that many users experience, and it isn’t all that uncommon.

Usually, in order for the pen pressure sensitivity to be working, the user will need to switch on the pressure feature, and the pen will become a pressure sensitive tool.

Once this happens, you can start to use your pen. However, this might not always be the case.

If your pen is not working due to errors that have occurred surrounding the pressure of the pen, there is nothing that you can do with the pen that will make it work.

This could be happening due to a variety of different reasons, which we are going to explain for you in this article.

We will also present you with various ways to fix pen pressure issues without restarting your tablet.

How To Fix Pen Pressure Without Restarting

If you are using your pen in combination with your computer and it isn’t working as it should be, it usually means that the settings for your Wacom tablet pen are not suitable or the drivers are causing errors.

We are going to provide you with some suitable solutions that you can try out below. We are going to look at the following in this article:

  1. Check the connections of the Wacom Tablet
  2. Update Wacom Drivers
  3. Reset Wacom Tablet Settings
  4. Diagnose Wacom Tablet Issues

Check The Connections Of The Wacom Tablet

The first thing that you will need to do is check the connections. If you haven’t connected the pen properly to the device, then it isn’t going to work right.

So, you will need to check that you have properly connected it to the PC.

To do this, you will first need to unplug the USB cable to the Wacom tablet and then plug it back in again.

If you are still having trouble, you should plug the USB cable into another device to find out if the cable is working or not.

If you have a spare cable that you know works, try it with your Wacom tablet to connect it to the computer and see if it works.

Once you have checked this, if the Wacom pen pressure is still not working as it should, you will need to move on to the next step.

Update Your Wacom Drivers

Another thing that you might want to try is updating the drivers on your Wacom tablet. Problematic drivers are often the cause of pen pressure sensitivity not working properly.

It is possible that the drivers on your tablet are outdated, missing, or corrupted, which can cause issues when it comes to pen pressure.

You will need to ensure that your drivers are updated and without errors.

There are various driver tools and softwares available that can help with this, and they can be used to help you to search for, download, and install Wacom drivers both automatically and efficiently.

Hopefully the updated drivers will solve the problem for you.

You will need to download, install, and run a driver software on your device. One that you could use is a driver booster.

You will need to scan your device to scan all of your drivers. Once the scan is complete, you can see which of your drivers need to be updated. You will then need to update them.

Once you have done this, you will need to try and use your pen again to find out if it has fixed your issues. If not, just keep reading to find out more ways in which you can fix your pen pressure.

Reset Your Wacom Tablet Settings

The next thing that you can try is to reset your Wacom tablet settings. In order to do this, you will need to correct any settings that are not as they should be.

You will need to reset both the pen settings and the configuration and preference settings.

To do this, you will need to open the Wacom tablet preference file utility from the desktop or the search box. You will need to go to ‘all user preferences’ and then click on ‘remove’.

When you do this, all of the preferences that have been set will be removed, including any that may be causing problems.

You will then need to check to see if your pen pressure is working again. Open any application, like Photoshop and try out your pen.

If the issue is still persisting, your only option that you have left would be to diagnose any issues that are going on with your tablet. You can find out how to do this in the next step.

Diagnosing Wacom Tablet Issues

If you didn’t already know, there is a diagnostics tool that is provided by Wacom, which can help you to troubleshoot various different Wacom issues.

One of the things that it can help to identify is why your pen pressure settings are not working as they should be. You can do this on both Mac and Windows devices.

For Windows

If you are using Windows 10, 8, 7, or any other Windows system, you will need to follow the next few steps.

  1. On Windows systems, go to ‘Wacom Tablet Properties’ and then ‘about’.
  2. Click on ‘diagnose’.
  3. In the following windows, go to ‘pointing device info’ then ‘proximity’, and then ‘in’.
  4. Now, you should press and depress the Wacom pen, and you can see the pen pressure value changes from 0% to 100%.
